MSNS Message Board
By special arrangement with the Numismatic Society, a private message board for collectors, MSNS has a forum area of its own. This forum is limited to MSNS members. To join you will have to give your MSNS member number and the Zipcode that your MichMatist comes to. These are only for validation. You pick a different username for being on the MSNS forum message board. Here, you can discuss convention business, board of directors business, society news, and a wide range topics. If you participate in other message boards such as PCGS's Collector's Universe or NGC's Collector's Society, then you will find this very familiar.
A bit of background by Mike Marotta
From January 2004 to December 2010, I wrote the "Internet Connections" column for the ANA Numismatist. My job was to find trusted websites for collectors. That included message boards; and I mentioned several in my columns. Then, last year (2010), this new board came up. Numismatic Society - www.numissociety.com - is run by an ANA Young Numismatist who signs on as "Freaky GarrettC." He gets help from his mother, Missie ("FreakyGsMom"), as well as Frank Colletti ("Treashunt"). Frank is the author of A Guide Book of the Official Red Book of United States Coins, the Red Book about Red Books. Other moderators pitching in include two MSNS stalwarts, William Anderson ("pennyguy") and James Motley ("jamez"). James is also the webmaster for the Huron Valley Numismatic Society.
NumisSociety.com has message areas for
United States Coins
North American Colonial, Pre-Confederation, States, Republics, Islands, Pre-Federal Coins and Tokens
United States Exonumia: Tokens, Medals and Commemoratives
World and Ancient Coins
United States and World Error, Variety and Pattern Coins
United States and World Bullion
United States and World Paper Money
World Exonumia: Jetons, Tokens, Medals and Commemoratives
Counterfeit and Replica Coins, Exonumia, Slabs and Paper Money
Other discussion areas are available for Numismatic Books and Magazines, Photography, and Metal Detecting, as well as sports, weather, and chat. And, of course, there is a sales and auctions area for member-to-member transactions. Security online is never any safer than in real life. That said, the moderators work very hard, specifically because this began as a Young Numismatist project by an ANA member.
If you have never used a message board before, visit the site, read and browse.
You can see how other people do things, what they talk about.
You do not need to register to read. Just click on Forum and follow the tabs and links.
In addition to the Forum, there are "Blogs" (web logs) where longer essays about coins appear for general readers.
